Hu Zheng, M.D., Professor, Deputy Chief Physician, Doctoral Supervisor, Chief Special Scientist of the Ministry of Science and Technology (formerly 863 Program), Leading Scientist of the BRICS Multinational Cooperation Project of the National Natural Science Foundation, Young Pearl River Scholar, outstanding young talents. Through years of efforts, he and his team (1) identified novel genome-wide HPV integration hotspots/patterns; and they (2) revealed for the first time that HPV integration occurred mainly by microhomology-mediated DNA repair pathways, providing insights into HPV integration-driven cervical carcinogenesis; and more importantly (3) they provided the first evidences that artificially-engineered nuclease including ZFN, TALEN and CRISPR could be repurposed to eliminate persistent HPV infection both in vitro and in vivo, thus paving the way for their therapeutic potential in the clinic. Until now, he has published 12 SCI papers as the corresponding author/the first author in this field, including one paper in the journal Nature Genetics(impact factor 31.6), one in the Journal of Clinical Investigation(invited as the cover paper, recommended by F1000, impact factor 14.4). The data and the corresponding scientific conclusions were cited by top-ranking journals including Nature, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Reviews Cancer, and were shared in several major domestic and international conferences.
