Haipeng Xiao, MD, PhD

Dr. XIAO Haipeng, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Medicine and Doctoral Supervisor awarded State Council Special Allowance. He is Executive Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University, President of The First Affiliated Hospital, SYSU and Chief Expert of Endocrinology. His other titles include “Distinguished Doctor in Sun Yat-sen University” and Healthcare Consultant for the Central Government. Dr. Xiao is appointed as Vice President, China Endocrine and Metabolism Association, Chinese Medical Doctors Association; Member of Board of Directors, Chinese Medical Association; Vice Chairman, Guangdong Medical Association; Vice President, Guangdong Diabetes Society; Member of American Thyroid Association (ATA); and Member of Continuing Medical Education (CME) Committee, American Endocrine Society.


Dr. Xiao acts as Deputy Editor-in-chief of Journal of Endocrinology/Journal of Molecular Endocrinology, peer reviewer of British Medical Journal (BMJ), and member of editorial board of various journals, such as Journal of Clinical Diabetes & Practice, Cardiovascular Endocrinology, National Medical Journal of China, Chinese Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Chinese Journal of Diabetes, etc. In addition, Dr. Xiao is Deputy Editor-in-chief of Internal Medicine (9th Version), a national textbook for MD program, and Endocrinology, a guide book for national standardized resident training program.


Dr. Xiao has led a number of research projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation. His major research interest lies in both basic and clinical research on epigenetics of thyroid diseases and diabetes, and COVID-19.  The research findings have been published in key international journals such as BMJ, JCEM, Thyroid, etc.
